With two diverse, distinct and unique cultures, Japan and Denmark meets in an exciting new collaboration between hummel and Japanese sneaker aficionados MITA Sneakers. It’s the third drop from the two partners, launched through hummel’s hub for premium collaborations, HUMMEL HIVE.
The new hummel x MITA sneaker continues the story from the first collaboration, launched in 2016, investigates the food culture of the two countries. As the first drop was inspired by both countries’ seafood traditions and salmon, in particular, this second sneaker interprets one of Denmark’s most beloved and internationally acclaimed foods: the Danish pastry.
The humorous and sensational shoebox is designed to look like puff pastry – complete with a dot of pink icing on top. As the stunning sneaker in hues of red slides out of the box, it brings to mind Danish pastries filled with sweet fruit jam. In thick pigskin suede with inserts of mesh and heavy cotton canvas, the design features surprising elements like marigold lining and unique detailing on the outsole of the soles. With its deep wine-coloured hues, the shoe boasts two different lace options – a flat burgundy one and a two-coloured rope lace – that alter the look of the shoe.
Created using the classic hummel silhouette of the Marathona – a heritage running shoe – the shoe tells yet another story about the cultural interaction between two proud nations; the hummel home country of Denmark and Japan – one of the most important markets for hummel. The collaboration further highlights hummel’s commitment to premium sneakers and the style segment and MITA Sneakers’ Creative Director Shigeuyki Kunii is one of the most celebrated people in the sneaker game. The Hummel Marathona x mita sneakers “Danish Pastry” releases January 3 at selected retailer such as hanon.
