Mankind has fantasized about space travel and what lies beyond Earth for generations. The vast vacuum of space and the brightness of stars are truly mesmerizing, leaving us to wonder if we are truly alone. The combination of our curiosity to explore and determination to advance technology, has paved way for this possibility. For the concept of "Space," Hypebeast takes this cohesion of engineering, exploration and the serene nature of space, to form the theme of the first 580 silhouette.
They chose the Deconstructed 580 model as the canvas for the "Space" concept and incorporated a unique black nubuck material with splatters of white throughout to enforce the theme. A white Revlite midsole provides comfort in the functionality and weight factors, while a black outsole finishes off the lower portion. Touches of black leather on the heel, matching black laces and an embossed black leather tongue patch were then added to complement the shoe. The shoe is then rounded out with a special graphic insole that features dualbranding, which is also found on the unique shoe box and a black sock liner for added comfort.
The Japanese word “haikyo,” which translates to "abandoned place," is also synonymous with exploration. In Japan, many of these abandoned areas have been taken over by the force of nature and formed breath-taking sights that tap the human nature of curiosity for further exploration. The New Balance 580 has a strong influence to the Japanese sneaker landscape. The combination of inner beauty of abandoned areas and the strong culture of exploration is the centre of our design as they tried to portray the beautiful blend of palettes. By utilizing the classic 580 silhouette as the base, the uppers incorporate a hairy suede while the underlays use mesh that is reminiscent of nature’s continuously growing tendencies over man-made structures. The midsole is in a tonal green color, which sits atop a green outsole and finishing touches on the exterior include matching green laces, as well as an embossed suede tongue tag. Finally, a special insole with dual-branding and a unique shoe box rounds out the “Earth” portion of this “Exploration Pack.” Both dropping August 6 at HBX.com
