In 2012, a year after the beginning of a cooperation between PONY and OVERKILL, an exciting quest began to find a long lost treasure. It was a hunt for a vintage Runner, a performer from way back when, a forgotten sneaker lost in time. OVERKILL re-discovered this missing silhouette on a ”Whats on my feet today” post and presented it to the shoe manufacturer from New York with the knowledge that such running silhouette’s are very much loved all over the european scene. This discovery and the accompanied WOMFT posting created great interest and excitement at PONY. The New Yorkers were now determined to help track down the origins of the runner and bring it back to life. In 2013, an appeal was launched on Instagram to assist in unraveling the mystery surrounding the missing Runner. But even after delving deep into the PONY archives, there was still very little information to be found. After 9 months of searching and as fate would have it, it was OVERKILL, in Berlin, that finally brought an end to this quest. As a reward, the first collaboration for the second launch of this re-discovered runner was gladly awarded to OVERKILL.
A new milestone was set and an original PONY silhouette was re-born! With both OVERKILL & PONY deeply rooted in the heritage of their own cities, Berlin and New York, this legend was brought back to life. Proudly presented as the ”Lady Liberty“, a strictly limited collaboration dropping on the 21.03.2015 just in time for beginning of spring. Only 400 pair worldwide.
If you look closely, you will find every inch of the Runner is dedicated to the heritage of PONY (Product of New York), and a clear homage to the memorial for peace, “Lady Liberty“. The overriding colors of oxidised copper mint and grey cement provide the color scheme of the shoe, reminiscent to the tones of the Statue of Liberty.
